Q&A
-
What is Colon Hydrotherapy?A Colonic is a safe and effective method of cleansing the large intestine of waste matter, through repeated gentle flushing with pure water. A Colonic can clear the entire length of the colon and rid the body of impacted feces, pathogens, mucous and poisonous toxins that would otherwise be recirculated in the blood stream and pose a plethora of potential health risks.

How does hydrotherapy impact health?Clearing the body of built up waste will have a cascade effect on many areas of health. It will improve bowel and digestive function, optimize nutrient absorption, reduce toxicity, and thereby reduce the effort the liver must put forth. This results in a healthier microbiome, improvement in hormone breakdown and bile production. Overall it creates a digestive system that functions more efficiently, and is better able to deal with the daily stresses we place on the body!

Will I feel pain during the treatment?A Colonic should not be painful. The majority of clients report an enjoyable experience and feel an increased sense of wellbeing shortly afterwards. However, having your first session can cause some pretreatment anxiety which can contribute to the overall discomfort. As an experienced therapist, I always strive to alleviate any nervousness or distress before beginning treatment. Relaxation is an important part of the healing process and also a key factor in the success of treatment. Additionally, preparation instructions are sent out at the time of booking to ensure adequate steps are taken to reduce wind and bloating prior to the session to minimize the discomfort.
-
What preparation is required?Consuming plenty of water and plant fibre as part of a healthy diet will encourage release of fecal matter. Many of those experiencing chronic constipation would also benefit from some other methods to soften and prepare the impacted stools for release. These can be discussed on a custom basis. Since your abdomen will be massaged, eat lightly for two preceding treatment. If possible, a bowel movement prior to the session saves time and permits more to be accomplished.
-
How long does a session last?An hour slot is allotted for the session. This allows 15 minutes to discuss health history and address and questions or concerns, 30 minutes of treatment and then ample time to use the washroom facilities. New clients should arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled appointment to fill out the patient questionnaire.
-
How many sessions will I need? One treatment is often not enough to address issues that have taken years or possibly decades to develop. An individual assessment will be made during the first session, based on the initial complaint, how successful the treatment was and the determined health of the bowel. However, as a general rule, most chronic conditions or those that involve a high level of toxicity will require 6-10 sessions. Specific additives will also be discussed.
-
Do I need to add coffee or ozone? In some cases, after the initial assessment and baseline observation, the decision is made to add either therapeutic grade coffee or medical ozone. The benefits of each of these will be fully discussed with the client prior to treatment.
